SRP 2016 Hype Display: Name Our Game!

Summer Reading is almost here! AAAGGHHHHHH! Are you ready? We are, totally. Suuure. Soooooo ready. :side eye emoji:

Fortunately, the schools in our area don't get out until later in June, so we have a little time. In an effort to drum up some early buzz for "On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!", I threw together a little interactive May Madness sort of book display. Two activities are pitted against each other at a time, and kids can vote for which one they think is more fun by putting a pom pom in the jar of their choice. When the pom pom supply is depleted, or the jars are full, we count the poms and crown a winner, updating the bracket accordingly.

Because this has been so popular, with the jars filling up so fast, we are going to expand it to a sweet 16 bracket after a winner from this set is named. Sweet 16?? I think that's what it called? Sara came up with that, and I don't really know sport things.

Oh and I mostly just raided the 796 shelves of Juvenile Nonfiction, but there are a bunch of picture books and sports fiction books in there, too.

Anyway, fun easy interactive SRP display! Good luck and have fun out there!!

Book Display Idea: (Magnetic) Poetry Month!

Hi all,

Here in fairytwinland, we like to make as many of our book displays as interactive as possible. Any excuse for play, imagination, ownership, and creative thinking, amirite?

A couple years ago I made a magnetic poetry set for an "animal poetry" display (typed in word doc, printed, laminated, cut, added magnets), so this year I just busted that out again with our old flannelboard, covered the table in black, and emptied the nonfiction shelves of all the coolest poetry for kids the 800s could offer.

May be too late in the month for you to use for Poetry Month this year, but please! So easy! So fun! So poetry! Use away!

Superbowl 2014 Book Display, AKA GO HAWKS!!!

It is an exciting time in our happy little state of Washington, our home team represented hard all season long and have made it all the way to the Superbowl! Caught up in the excitement, we decided to turn our display table into the endzone, and crafted a book display around it.

We made goal posts out of yellow foam core, printed and laminated pictures of key offensive players in celebratory poses, covered the table in green butcher paper and added field markings, and pulled some of our favorite books on the subject of football. Voila! We also brought the white-board and markers out to encourage a little friendly rivalry and speculation to the question, "Who do you think will win the Superbowl?"

We are pretty sure we know the answer to that one.

~Happy reading and football watching, friends! GO HAWKS!

RED READS book display!!!

Hey there, literacy superstars!

Run out of book display inspiration? Short on time, but tall on glitter? I know we were... I had no idea what to put in this funny little display location... it had been a "WE ARE NEW!" new books display for the past 215624521654654 months. And then I saw a red book cover, and all our problems were solved.

Hello, red books display!

Fairy twins recommend: Our favorite books of the year!

We read some really great books this year, and in an effort to share them with as many people as possible, turned them into a book display!

We included books we've used in story times, books we've talked, teen books, board books, and everything in between! The display itself is just a big glitter, tulle, and stuffing explosion, with illustrations of us and special limited edition "Fairy Twin Approved" bookmarks.

We will update this post with a couple best-of lists in the coming days- stay tuned!

It has been a great year for books!

Happy reading,
Sara & Emily

Pizza book display!

A wonderful local pizza spot, Old School Pizzeria, asked us if we would be interested in putting up a display of pizza-y books and even offered up a couple shirts for us to give away in an accompanying drawing. We were obviously all about this business. Pizza and books, what else could you need?

John Green says nothing. You need nothing else.

We decided to let the public turn our display table into a pizza, because reasons. It has only been up for a couple days, and it is already full of ridiculous, awesome toppings. There is lots of extra cheese, and broccoli, and anchovies and rockets. Yes, delicious rocket pizza takes you to the moon.

Excited to see where this one goes!

Happy displays and pizza for all!
